Intelligent Solutions in Nuclear Waste Management
As a proud and trusted supplier to nearly all of the 17 United States Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories across the country, Noah Chemicals has been instrumental in the DOE’s environmental management efforts, specifically with regard to the immobilization of nuclear waste. This immobilization process, called “vitrification”, involves combining radioactive waste with glass-forming chemicals and melting the mixture to produce a glass mass that contains the radioactive material, thereby rendering it inactive.
Beginning with the West Valley Demonstration Project in 1995 (the first project in the nation to use the vitrification process), Noah has been supplying chemicals to test the process capabilities of the various plants, as well as to assist in the vitrification process itself. We continue our efforts in radioactive waste disposal to this day.
Our longevity in this field gives us a distinct advantage of experience in supplying the Department of Energy complex the necessary materials to continue its mission of protecting the environment and developing the science of tomorrow.
